Pharmaceutical Chemistry is an area of chemistry, which
deals with the development of new drugs and the modification of currently used
drugs in order to prevent, cure and relieve the symptoms of diseases. The
medicinal chemists are the creative talents, which are responsible for the
advancement of modern pharmaceutical industries. Basically, the focus of
pharmaceutical chemistry is on medicinal drugs. An expertise in the area of
pharmaceutical chemistry is able to make a choice of his/her interest with various
branches like research, production, manufacturing, quality control,
administration and computational chemistry. Graduates with experience in
synthetic organic chemistry, structural characterization by spectroscopic
techniques, and familiarity with chromatography are essential for this
industrial sector. The present course reflects at the new challenges faced by
chemists.
Internationally, the
pharmaceutical industry is one of the most vibrant and active areas of
technology based industry.
